LYME DISEASE

Defination-Lyme disease also known as Lyme borreliosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the borrelia type.which is spread by ticks. The most common sign of infection is redness of the skin known as erythema migrans,which begins at the site of ticks bite. Etilogy-Borrelia burgdorferi the causative agent of the disease.it is a fastidious microaeropfilic bacteria that grow best at tempreture 33 degree c in a complex liquid medium called barbour,stoenner.and kelly medium. Pathogenesis-After injecting or bite of the ticks the the B.burgdorferi may migrated outward producing,EM(erythema migrans) and may spread heamatologiously in to the organs.after that the infections develops in the body and grow.it spread into blood,organs,and skin. Initially the immune system of our body seems to be suppressed. clinical feature or sign & symtoms-After the incubation period of 3 to 32 days EM develop,which occurs at the site of tick bite.it begins with a macule or papule that expands to form a large annular lesion.most with a bright red outer border and central part nearly clear.because of the small size ixoidid tick bite. The central part sometimes erythematous and indurated.vesicular.the lesion are intence red and several lesion seen outside.The lesion becomes warm but not painfull.skin biopsy show perivascular infiltrate or lymphocytes. stage 2-after the injection of the organism into heamatogeneously it may spread different sites.such patients develop 2ndry stage. where patients suffering from headache,artharalgia,malaise and fatigue.some have conjuctivitis,irretative cough,testicular swelling.except for fatigue,and lethargy.which often constant.some 10 to 15 percent patients have neurological symtoms like meningitis.these early neurological abnormalities usually resolve completly within month. some 5 to 8 percent have cardiac problem.most common are arterioventicular block,it usually last only few weeks but may recur.during these stage musculoskeletal pain is common. Diagnosis-Lyme disease is diagnosed by clinical feature and serological confirmation.althourgh the serology test may be negetive for 1st few early weeks. Treatment-There are several homeopathic medicine for Lyme disease ,but all medicine are given sign and symtoms wise of the patient.Drug like Belladona,apis mel ,Ledum pal,Rhus tox,arnica,urtica urens etc we given. Prognosis-The response to treatment is best in early stage .Treatment of Lyme borreliosis later in the course of illness often results in months of convalescence.Eventually complete recover ensues in the marority of patients.
